Research Question 8

What do we know about the impact that housing stock permeability has on energy demand and Internal Air Quality (IAQ)?

This project will address the knowledge gap of the distribution of the baseline building fabric air permeability of the UK housing stock and how this relates to both energy demand and IAQ, thus informing relevant policy development.

A knowledge gap currently exists with regard to the distribution of the baseline building fabric air permeability of the UK housing stock. This research is intended to inform researchers, building professionals and government on existing gaps in the literature by collating the existing evidence on the building fabric permeability levels of dwellings in the UK into a comprehensive database. Also we will try to understand existing studies (from other countries, especially USA) and where possible perhaps apply them to UK, so that to get a better understanding of distribution of the baseline building fabric air permeability of the UK housing stock. The work will also address the impact that such distributions have on energy demand and the associated tensions with IAQ.
